Today I found this entry in my diary. It was written whilst we travelled on the Birdsville and Oodnadatta Tracks to see the water spectacular in Lake Eyre.

Travelling and Exercise

Once again my family and I have been on a trip that I packed exercise gear for and didn’t utilise. What is with that? Whenever we set off on a trip I tell myself “it is definitely worth taking up the storage space because I am disciplined”. My intention is to pull out or put on the runners, sports gear, skipping rope or boxing gloves and exercise daily because I am an Exercise Professional and that is just what I do.

Like most people though – holiday mode sets in. First day I don’t exercise because - well it is my first day of holidays and I deserve the break! Second day I don’t exercise because I drank too much the night before and besides – I deserve a sleep in! Next day we get up early to do an awesome activity than takes a few hours and of course I plan to exercise in the afternoon but by then we are all exhausted from out big day and we just want to cuddle up and chill in front of the box. Day four and my back is stiff, my bowels aren’t moving and I feel bloated from over indulgence…I don’t exercise because I feel horrid.

Then my logical self kicks in and I find new motivation to get out of bed while my family sleep and out I go for a run. I feel fabulous and so proud of myself…short lived as I don’t do anything more for the rest of the week’s holiday.

I love exercise! It makes me feel fantastic. But even I get bitten by the slug bug when it comes to holidays.
If this scenario is familiar to you, and you have some tips for overcoming holiday activity, please share them with us.
